{Giveaway} The Elite (Kiera Cass)

Wednesday, March 6, 2013
Imagine that "The Bachelor" was actually a prince complete with castle and balls. Now imagine that we're in a dystopian future where people are trying to kill the contestants. Throw in a love triangle and you have The Elite by Kiera Cass.

The flow and plot kinda remind me of something Shannon Hale might write. I totally had Cinderella vibes. A very poor girl enters the Selection (as all girls must) and is chosen by the Prince. But our main character is already in love, thank you very much. The Ugly Stepsisters are present as other contestants, and some of them are actually rather nice.

There are no mice. Or magical pumpkins. Or glass slippers.

There is, however, a ball. And beautiful gowns. And an evil stepmother (or possible future father-in-law/king).

Loved it.

And you can win my ARC! Fill out the form below to enter. Thanks so much to Jean BookNerd for donating a book for the giveaway.

The Elite is actually the second book in the series, so make sure to start with the first:

  1. Fairytales, I LOVE fairytales. Having to choose one? That is incredibly hard. I think I Beauty and the beast because I truly believe that it is what's inside that counts. And people can always change.

    Don't judge a book by it's cover. :)

Any fairy tale of a redhead. Ha ha. I just read a sleeping Beauty version where she was a redhead. Sure, why not.

  1. Konstanz: I loved that movie as a kid.

Lacey: haha! Well, I guess that counts. :)

  1. Gabic said...:

I love a lot of fairy tales, but I must say I love the Little Mermaid the best

  1. Cassi said...:

I love Little Red Riding Hood :)

  1. I love Hansel & Gretel because of the candy house. I pretty much like ALL fairy tales though. AAAANNND I WANT this book so BAD!!! :)

  1. Gabic: The movie came out when I was in the first grade. I LOVED it.

Cassi: Oh, I've wanted to write a spin off of that.

    Winter: It's EXCELLENT!

  1. magic5905 said...:

I like most of them, especially Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.

  1. Unknown said...:

Definitely The Little Mermaid for me: it was tragic and sweet at the same time and the Disney version has always been my favorite. Love!

  1. My favorite fairy tale is probably Sleeping Beauty!

  1. Unknown said...:

Hansel and Gretel. Such a cautionary tale - DON'T trust strangers (or strange women who live in gingerbread houses). :)

  1. I have always LOVED Cinderella I guess because a nobody becomes someone great at the end :)

  1. Unknown said...:

I've always loved the original Cinderella.

  1. Denise Z said...:

I love Snow White because of the seven dwarfs and I love Beauty and the Beast because it teaches us to look beyond the obvious. Thank you for sharing with us.

  1. Unknown said...:

My favorite was always Cape o' Rushes

  1. Jen Wylie said...:

I always loved the old movie of Sleeping Beauty.

  1. Veray said...:

I have always loved Cinderella because she came from the bottom and rose to the top.

  1. Magic: Oh, I love Snow White!

Bella: Ah, but which version? Disney or classic?

Emily: Maleficent is my fav villian!

Humaira: Also, if it looks too good to be true, it prolly is.

    Danielle: The sweet girl wins!

    Sarah: Good choice?

Melinda: I've never read the original tale.

    Denise: No fair--you can't pick two. ;)

Jen: Never heard of it. Do tell.

Veray: Everyone loves a good underdog.

I like the Japanese fairytale called Kaguya-hime, because it's a neat blend of fantasy and sci-fi.

  1. Unknown said...:

My favorite fairy tale is definitely Beauty and the Beast.

  1. Stacy said...:

I have always loved Beauty and the Beast, maybe because I always try to see the good in people (which sometimes leads to be getting hurt unfortunately). Also, in the Disney movie, I covet that library!

  1. Unknown said...:

the little mermaid was my favorite, I think because I was obsessed with the ocean when I was little.

  1. I think I was always a huge fan of Cinderella because my mom used to share all the different versions from around the world. I liked how it was an idea that ascended cultures.

  1. kc said...:

probably Cinderella. I love how her life changes, she only asked to go to the ball and she gets the prince.

  1. Jamie E. said...:

I can't say I have a favorite fairy tale. Too many to choose fro. Although I do like them with darker twists the most.

  1. Unknown said...:

I always loved the story of Sleeping Beauty. I though it was so romantic.

  1. Janelle said...:

My favorite fairy tale is Cinderella because I loved he concept of someone small getting the chance to get far in her life. If you have read Marissa Meyers's book Cinder then you can see how beautiful the story of Cinderella is and how people can totally twist the story to make it so much more relatable and modern. The Selection, to me, is a Cinderella story waiting to be told. This series is not done and we haven't seen our Cinderella get the happy ending she has been waiting for.

  1. Janelle said...:

My favorite fairy tale character is Cinderella because I love the story how someone can struggle so much in their life and finally find their happy ending. If you have read Marissa Meyers's book, Cinder, then you can understand how Cinderella's story an be changed and altered into a piece of work that is more relatable and modern. In the Selection, our Cinderella's story is not finished and I wonder what journey she'll take to find the happy ending she has been waiting for.

  1. Mary H said...:

The Twelve Dancing Princesses. I think this started my obsession with shoes... Honestly, I liked the idea of not getting swept up in a crowd, standing out, doing what you want. Also, I loved that the princess saved the boy for once!

  1. PamM said...:

Fairy Tale story wise is to hard to pick one I love them all but I will say The Little Mermaid is one of them.

  1. Favorite Fairy Tale? That would probably be Beauty and the Beast although I have loved some variations of the Red Riding Hood Fairy Tale too.

  1. Unknown said...:

  1. NIK MO said...:

I like Snow White, Rapunzel, and The Little Mermaid! I can't explain it, they just spoke to me!

  1. Holly said...:

Thanks for the opportunity to win one of your books!

  1. Holly said...:

Oops, I didn't mention the fairy tale. Okay, as far as Disney goes, I am a HUGE Beauty and the Beast fan because it gives the message that looks do not equal love. Kindness, caring, laughter, understanding are all examples in that story that show what love is. And of course, Belle loves books, just as I do! Which I think shows that intelligence is another thing to consider when it comes to love.

  1. Chyna said...:

My fave is Ariel's story heheheh idk why but I just used to love the sea :))

  1. Sea Glass said...:

I love Princess and the Pea. In my "special box" up in my closet I still have the little tiny book of it I got when I was young. I always really loved the artwork in my copy. Thanks for the giveaway! :)

Oh I love some of the old ones. My grandfather has an old German Fairytales book with the original goose girl and the likes. That is a fun read full of surprises!

  1. My favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast

  1. Unknown said...:

I always loved puss in boots and listened to it on my grandparents' record player. Makes me nostalgic to hear it now :) (the player broke a few years back so that I had to go back to listening to CDs while being there...)

  1. I love beauty and the beast and sleeping beauty i just love the stories

  1. I'm agreeing with some of the other posts in that I LOVE Beauty and the Beast--the heroine loves to read, is smart and that yellow dress!! Also, the more important message--being prideful and judging a book by its cover.

  1. Yun-A said...:

I liked Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, especially The Nightingale and The Little Match Girl.

  1. Unknown said...:

Thanks for the fantastic giveaway! That's a bit hard for me as I love fairy tales. If I had to choose it'd be the little match girl, it's just so sad and really taught me how to share and appreciate what you have...yes these morals stood out to me even when I was a child...for this book anyway.

  1. Nesha said...:

My favorite fairy tale is the 7 Swan Brothers. Cute story and shows how far someone is willing to go to help someone they love.

  1. Beauty and the Beast because I like the idea that things are not always as they seem on the surface and second chances.

  1. Rose said...:

My fave fairy tale is Cinderella.

  1. Rose said...:

Forgot to post why I love Cinderella. I just love her story. How she came from living with her evil stepmother and stepsisters to marrying the prince. She went to the ball even when she wasn't supposed to. She took control of her life right at that moment I think. So that's why Cinderella is my favorite. Thanks for the chance!

  1. Laura said...:

My favourite fairy-tale is Mulan, because it shows a woman and a man can do the same job, and I also think that is a nice love story.
